Rain happens and it does not have to ruin your marriage proposal! My team and I work to be as accommodating as we can to offer options in the case of rain. One option is shifting the date of the proposal or the time. Another option is choosing a covered spot like under neath one of the arches such as the Trellis arch or inside The Bethesda Terrace. That said there are trade off here in that when it rains often many people visiting the park also tuck under these arches for shelter. Option 3 is proposing in the rain (light rain that is not a heavy downpour)
What do I do if I have my proposal planned and it rains? Will we still get good Photos?
Frequently Asked Questions
I’m sorry to break it to you but I would highly advise against picnic proposals in the NYC parks as NYC is not the cleanest in terms of vermin and unfortunately picnics can attract rats and raccoons. Overall I think it’s best not to tempt these critters! In fact I once had a raccoon nearly jump on me to grab a piece of cheese during a picnic. I learned my lesson :) As an alternative to a picnic I highly encourage proposing in a beautiful location within the park (I will help you with this) having gorgeous engagement / post proposal portraits done and then going for a romantic stroll through the park. If you are hungry Tavern on the Green and the Boathouse Restaurant are both great options for dining within the park.
Is a picnic proposal a good idea?
While permits can create a feeling of security they unfortunately do not provide much and end up being flimsy documents. If you would like to reserve a permit you are more than welcome to but be aware that given Central Park is a public place you cannot actually reserve the space as their is no enforcement to deter other people from going into the gazebo. That said there is no need to fret. We do proposals in Gazebos ALL the time and they always go perfectly. The way we handle is by selecting a gazebo we think will work the best for your proposal and then on the day of when our team is setting up if there is an issue at the gazebo we chose we will let you know that we are shifting to another nearby gazebo that will be equally as beautiful for you. Fortunately there are MANY gazebos in the park so this adjustment is seamless!
Do I need a permit to propose in one of Central Park’s Gazebos?
There are many iconic places in the park like the Bethesda Terrace, the Gapstow Bridge and many others but depending on the season, day of the week and time of day my answer to this question vastly differs. On our proposal planning call we can go over the many different locations that may work best for your proposal and choose the one that would be the very best for you to pop the question!
